The "Natural" Philosphy
There is not just one way of eating that works for everyone. There are many aspects to consider when choosing the correct diet for you. Often, many questions arise when trying to choose the correct diet for yourself. Having so many diet choices available doesn’t make it easy. One can ask themselves questions such as, Should I follow the Atkins Diet? Or The Zone Diet? Or Should I follow the Blood Type Diet? Or Should I follow the South Beach Diet? Or Should I follow the All Raw Diet? Should I be a vegetarian? Should I eat animal protein? And on goes the list…but you get the picture!
“We” feel it is important to listen to the person and ascertain how they feel after eating certain foods. Utilizing a diet recall diary where there is space to write down any signs or symptoms after eating such foods can be a very useful tool. Whichever diet is chosen, balance is key. Trust the intuition of the body, it knows what it needs. It is important to not let our beliefs override our intuition.
Our belief is to eat a clean and complete wholesome diet. Consider the following:
- If consuming animal products, choose lean and organic or grassfed products when possible. If eating fish, Wild Salmon is a great choice.
- If consuming dairy products, choose organic when possible.
- Eat a variety of vegetables with plenty of leafy greens and salads daily.
- Drink fresh vegetable juices.
- Drink an adequate amount of purified water daily.
- Eat a variety of fresh fruits.
- Choose Healthy Fats such as olives, avocados, raw nuts and seeds, raw nut and seed butter, cod liver oil, flax seed oil, olive oil etc.
- Choose whole grains such as quinoa, buckwheat, brown rice, wild rice etc.
- Assorted beans
- Seaweed
- Keep wholesome, unrefined sweeteners to a minimum such as brown rice syrup, maple syrup, raw honey, stevia, xylitol, agave etc.
Do we all need vitamins/supplements? We wholeheartedly believe in a vitamin maintenance program including a multivitamin, essential fatty acids, an antioxidant and, more often than not, a probiotic. If there are health concerns, other targeted nutrients can be brought in as needed.
Healthy eating is all about making better choices…it is not an exact science. Choose foods that are the color of the rainbow and select foods, when possible, that are organic and locally grown. Choosing healthy foods is delicious, healing and energizing to the body! Enjoy!
